Going Home Saturday December 6, 2014

Time to go home. Sad to be leaving paradise. It was a great vacation for me and good time for Jim to work with the folks at Vodafone.

We arrive at the airport early. It is really hot and humid. We sit around waiting to board. As Fiji Jim goes through the metal detectors, they are set off and he has to stand over to the side while they wand him. finally they decided it was ok for him to go through. Really deja vu for the boarding from Los Angles to Toronto.

It is a short trip from Suva to Nadi. Ann and her husband are on board. We check our bags and walk to Raffles, a hotel nearby. We sit and have lunch with them. Their plane is earlier back to Tasmania. Jim and I hang around in the gardens. I just really want to get on the plane to go home. The plane doesn’t leave until 9:30 pm. We walk back to the airport and check in. Again we sit around waiting. I realized too late that they took away my window seat. I try to go back but it is too late.

Finally we get on board and I find out we are in the middle. Going to be a long flight. The woman beside me takes a pill, puts her mask on and sleeps. Lucky her. Pretty tired when we land in Los Angles. Have to go through security and customs. We have to get our bags and find where to place them for our flight back to Toronto and then on to Ottawa.

We walk from Tom Bradley International Airport over to the Air Canada. Again Jim has his hands checked and when we try to go through the metal detectors he is stopped again and they wave the wand and put him through the metal detector again. It is the shorts he is wearing they have all these buckles that set it off. So he takes out all his change and his belt. Finally he says he will take off his shorts if they want. That is when they say it is ok for him to go through.

We go and sit in the waiting area. Jim goes to change from Fiji Jim to regular Jim. While he is gone a woman approaches me, looking for help or money, not sure. I just tell her to get away from me or I will call security. I have all our bags on the bench and I don’t want to be distracted.

So back into regulars clothes and waiting to board Air Canada. Once on board I try to close my eyes to catch up on some sleep.

Landed in Toronto and waited till our next flight on to Ottawa. Got in late and Tim picked us up.

We were glad to be home after the long long day.

Thursday December 4 2014

I ate my breakfast with Anne Bereton in the dining room at the Novetel. We decide to take a taxi and go into to town to shop. She wanted to get some gifts for her grandchildren.
I look for some clothes but don’t find any that fit me.
When we got back we went for a swim.
I was hungry for dinner so I had a pork chop. So delicious and really helped fill the belly.

Wednesday December 3

Just another day in paradise! Went and had the big breakfast as usual. 2 eggs sunny side up, bacon and a side order of gluten free pancakes. I start with a plate of fruit and a coffee.
Ann and I decide we will go for another walk to Lami Bay Town. We look around at the MH and I get some money from the ANZ bank. We walk back and it is so hot and humid we put up our umbrella's to keep the heat of the sun off us. Time to cool off in the pool.
I decide that I am hungry. I order room service, steak, salad and fries. That was so yummy. I feel better as the crackers and peanut butter weren't  cutting it.
